Started a new revision of the project with some simplifications and improvements. It will be named Synth Core B. I'll publish information on my site soon.

I've read that Bang Olufsen has decided to use AVR32 on some of it's audio products ( it was a good decision choosing AVR32 :) ):

"... We are excited to collaborate with Atmel to bring high-quality amplifier capabilities to their popular 32-bit AVR based audio platform," said Mads Emil Solgaard, technology marketing manager, Bang & Olufsen ICEpower. "The digital audio market is constantly evolving and developers need high-quality, ready-to-run reference designs that allow them to hit the narrow market windows."

The complete digital audio playback platform enables a user to access digital audio files from an SD card, USB mass storage device or from a host USB device such as a computer. The kit can easily be extended to connect to media player docking ports as well as Bluetooth or WiFi connections. The audio files can be compressed using the most proliferated compression algorithms such as AAC, MP3 or WMA. ..."

I've started a new revision of the board to make it easier to mount and reduce its cost.

I created some renders to illustrate how could "Synth core A" be used in new custom synths:

I've finally decided that I'll remove the audio codec and the audio amplifier from the next board revision. The microprocessor can play mp3 and other audio formats by itself, and adding this hardware codec adds complexity and cost to the board, so I think that the best option is to remove it. I will also replace the audio mixer for another none obsoleted version, or by a simpler device.

After having published this site I consider the first part of the project finished . Next step will be creating some application based on this board, or maybe creating a new revision with some improvements. It will only happen if I manage to get time to do it...I'm too busy lately. More time please !!
